Naval Events:

U.S.S. Hatteras, under Commander Emmons, captured Confederate brig Josephine off Ship Shoal, Louisiana, en route to Havana with cargo of cotton.

Bark Agrippina, commanded by Captain Alexander McQueen, was ordered to rendezvous in the Azores with steamer Enrica (afterwards C.S.S. Alabama) which was to depart Liverpool pursuant to arrangements made by Commander Bulloch in London, for the purpose of transferring guns, ammunition, coal, and other cargo to Alabama. Under the command of Captain Raphael Semmes, the renowned Confederate cruiser Alabama ravaged the seas, dealing serious damage to Union commerce.
